Our Story
How a passion for authentic craftsmanship became a global brand trusted by over 50,000 customers and why Australia sits at the heart of our growth.
It Started with Frustration
In 2015, Paul Anderson made a simple observation that became the foundation of everything Decrum would become: the leather jacket market was broken.
Everywhere he looked, the same pattern repeated. High-street brands charged premium prices for bonded leather and synthetic blends dressed up as the real thing. Luxury labels offered genuine quality but at prices that locked out anyone who was not willing to spend a month’s rent on outerwear. And fast fashion had reduced the leather jacket, one of the most enduring garments in menswear and womenswear, to a disposable commodity. Buy it in autumn, watch it peel by spring.
“I saw a world full of ‘fast fashion’, pieces that looked good for a week but lost their soul a month later. I wanted to build something that lasted. Something you could pass down.”
Cutting Out The Middleman
That frustration became a question: what if you could deliver genuine, full-grain lambskin leather, the kind of leather that feels extraordinary from day one and only gets better, at a price that reflects the craftsmanship rather than the retail markup?
The answer, Paul realised, was structural. The inflated prices in traditional leather retail were not driven by material costs or craftsmanship. They were driven by the layers between maker and buyer. Distributors, wholesalers, department store margins, and brand-licensing fees could add 300–500% to the cost of a jacket before it reached the customer.
Decrum was built as a direct-to-consumer brand from its first day. Every jacket ships straight from the workshop to your door. No retail partners taking a cut. No wholesale margins. No licensing fees. The savings go directly to two places: better materials and lower prices for the customer.
Obsessed With The Details
Every Decrum jacket begins with the leather itself. We use 100% full-grain Nappa lambskin, sourced from hides selected for their natural softness, minimal scarring, and consistent grain. The leather is tanned using environmentally responsible methods that minimise water and chemical waste because quality and responsibility should not be competing values.
Each hide measures 0.6–0.8mm in thickness, carefully calibrated for a balance of lightweight drape and structural durability. This is the leather that moulds to your body over time, developing a patina that is uniquely yours.
“Humanising this process means being obsessed with the details. I personally oversee our design process, looking at how a shoulder sits, how the leather drapes, and how a cuff feels against the wrist. If I would not wear it for the next ten years, we do not ship it.”
From Passion Project To Global Brand
This model launched as an independent e-commerce store in 2018, and within two years, Decrum had built a community of dedicated customers who recognised something different was happening. Word spread, not through advertising budgets, but through the quality of the product itself.
What started in 2015 as one person’s vision has grown into a brand trusted by over 50,000 customers across six continents. Decrum now ships to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, France, and Italy, with dedicated regional stores offering local currency pricing and optimised shipping.
The growth has been organic and customer-driven. Our reviews consistently highlight three things: the quality of the leather exceeds expectations at the price point, the fit is considered and consistent, and the customer service team treats every buyer as if they are the only one. We are proud of all three, but it is the last one that matters most.
Why Australia Matters To Us
Australia holds a special place in Decrum’s story. Australians have an intuitive appreciation for quality that cuts through marketing noise. They buy with intention, they value craftsmanship, and they expect the product to earn their loyalty rather than demanding it through branding alone. That is exactly the customer we designed Decrum for.
Our Australian store offers pricing in AUD, free shipping across the country, and the same 30-day return and free exchange guarantee available globally. Whether you are in Melbourne layering up for winter, in Sydney adding an edge to a weekend outfit, or in Perth looking for the jacket that works year-round, Decrum delivers the same quality and service that has built our reputation worldwide.
We have also found that Australian customers are among our most knowledgeable. They research materials, compare construction, and ask the right questions before buying. We welcome that scrutiny, because our jackets are built to withstand it. Every seam, every stitch, every cut of leather is there because it belongs.
